One wife one husband, a lemon, one teaspoon of honey & a pinch of baking soda

This evening my husband and I found ourselves in our bathroom trying out yet another beauty tip found on pinterest… the poor sod, but points to him for going along with it for me.

Tonight’s experiment was teeth whitening with baking soda and lemon juice for us both and honey and lemon applied to face for black head removal on myself…. glamorous right, passionate right….

Iv been cyber hauding all these bits of beauty advice on pinterest for weeks now and thought it high time to see if they work…. Last night I also tried the baking soda with milk method for black head removal, the fact that i tried something different this evening says it all really.

Is it just me am I just gullible to think one of these tips may work and WHO are ALL these crazy people who keep posting comments saying  ” yer this was amazing it really worked” STOP LYING!!!

In the same way I like to spread and share a good recipe  with  y’all I feel i should be honest and advise you on the fails, so….

The milk and baking soda well I was really excited about this one I had this secret feeling it was going to work and my skin would be radiant but NO, it did however damage the skin on my nose so now Im left with a nice little graze on my nose, thanks for that random pinner, as if I don’t have enough to worry about with the above blackheads, spots, dry skin and acne scars!

Next up the honey and lemon method…….. I was pretty doubtful about this myself and I was totally right! I love it when im right. This is also a bit of a hu ha, it drips everywhere and a waste of perfectly good lemon.

So after I washed that crap of my face I admitted defeat and moved on the next area, teeth. As i mixed my potion up of lemon juice and baking soda and called my husband to my cauldron we began to brush our teeth with the delightful mixture… BORK! only after the first go we realized we had done it wrong and had to apply the grim tasting concoction to our teeth using cotton wool, leave for 5 minutes and then brush off…. RESULTS……. DRUM ROLL PLEASE……. It did work a little for myself but not for my husband and it wasnt exactly what I was hoping for… I was going for a whiter than a nun’s knickers effect, so another round of disappointment there then.

so for now my beauty experiments have failed me, but these crazy people will keep on pinning new tips and this crazy person along with her half willing husband will always be here to see if its anything to shout about……

If you see me wondering around the supermarket with fruit and baking ingredients its best not to expect a cake as the chances are in the words of my husband ” I’m off to put more food on my face”

Next to try……

My childhood books from me to you.

As my daughter’s 5th birthday approaches, and the fact that our study/reading room/nook project is beginning to take its first steps towards a reality I recently began having flash backs to my childhood and the books I use to love as  child.

My dearest Ruby If your reading this, you should know by now you come from a family of readers, your Nannie Pat (my mam) has always loved to read and took me to the library from a very young age, and of corse me. I remember as a young teenager I would spend my saturday morning in the local library,  and now it gives me such joy to know you have inherited this from us. I love filling your little book shelf up with books and love it even more when you tell me your going upstairs to read. So as your birthday approaches Iv decided that I’m going to share with you the most favorite books from my early childhood and I just wanted to let you know that your mammy has set upon a mission to track down these books for you and

“no matter how busy we think we are, we must also find time for reading”

These few books are only the start of what I want to give to you but you are still a wee girl and this is where we will begin….

Mammy’s favorite books from me to you….

The old woman who lived in a vinegar bottle

Recipe of the week, Peanut Butter & Banana Cheesecake

Iv been fighting a little battle today… Inside my refrigerator is the remains of yesterdays peanut butter cheesecake and its evil temptation will be the weight gain of me.

I know its January and a frozen cheesecake doesn’t exactly scream comfort food but my lord its good.

Iv never dared to attempt a cheesecake but a no bake cheesecake what can possibly go wrong….

Peanut butter is a staple in our house and together my husband and I have passed this love on to the children..we like to give them the best things in life 😉

So I’m in the middle of a peanut butter pudding discovery and this is the first of many nuttery buttery desserts …

combine crushed biscuits & melted butter and press into a round cake tin, mine was a 22cm tin

whip the cream until it holds shape and in a separate bowl beat the sugar, soft cheese & vanilla.

Seperartly beat the peanut butter untill loosened, then fold the cheese mixture into the peanut butter, then tip in the mashed banana and gently fold in the cream.

Spread the mix over the biscuit base

Freeze for several hours (I did this for around 12 hours and took it out the freezer a couple of hours before we planned to eat.

“I have had a taste of my own Medicean and oh it is bitter”

This is how I felt recently after a string of small-scale rows with the hubby regarding home improvements.

I’m sure you can all put 2 and 2 together and workout I have been massively inspired by Pinterest and in particular the home Deco section.

It’s not as if I want to change the whole house I would just like a few tweaks to make our house a home..

These tweaks  include but are not limited to, a reading  nook, oh how I dream of a nook/study… A nook been a reading room ( didn’t  even know this until my Pinterest)  my nook in particular would have a floor to ceiling book shelves for all my cook books and all the books I plan to stack for the children…. Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Railway Children, Dickens…the list is endless!
Also this nook of mine requires a desk and which will be where all the magic happens and where I will do all my important work… Important work been research for my book I’m planning on writing, and a lovely vase of flowers well because I’m a girl and I like pretty things…  I can see it now, me sat in my husbands favorite sweat pants and T, writing the next big block buster whilst Jazz FM fills the room with delicious melodies.

As a compromise Iv agreed that instead of all walls been covered in a book-case iv settled for one feature bookcase wall and another wall covered in pictures in various  designs and sizes of frames. (Oh think of the fun we will have scouring the boot sales at 7am to find these bespoke frames)
Another feature of this room is THE CHAIR…… It seems only my mother in law understands my search for the perfect chair, and after a few bad purchases and mind changes and one of them row’sI mentioned  I purchased what can only be described as the Grandaddy of chairs. It’s big it’s comfy it’s just sex in a chair and it’s where I’ll do my best reading.

Any way back to having a taste of my own medicine
Every time I put my sweetest voice on and suggest the projects all I hear from the husband is “you can’t  ” we can’t do that, that won’t work” and after a hissy fit which ended in me calling him a tosser I realised this must be exactly how my 4.5 year old daughter feels every day when she asks me an array of things and I reply “oh we can’t”  “No you can’t do that” and I feel dreadful for it!
The thought that my daughter may feel that I’m stifling her creativity or raining on her parade just like my husband is ruining all my plans or pissing all over my chips as he would say is just dreadful! Is she calling me a tosser?? I hope not I much prefer it when she calls me an angel!

So one day Ruby if you ever read this and I so hope you do, I’m very sorry for all the “no we cant’s” and I will try a little harder to stop and think “do I really have to say no can’t I just say absolutely come on let’s do it!
Just a little more Often…

And one day husband when you read this coz I know you do please stop saying no because really all it’s doing is putting you in the dog house, making me no longer bake cakes for you and quite frankly just out of sheer womanly spite not put out!!

I will not rest I will not bake!!

Wardrobe Wednesday

Just for fun and a one-off I have pinched one of my fave celebrity bloggers themes today (Bethany Joy Lenz)

Today my husband and I took the children sledging in the snow and I took comfort and warmth to the extreme, it’s just a pity I didn’t take style into consideration…

So out of pure humor, here is My wardrobe Wednesday

20130116-201532.jpg

I originally had black leggings on with a long-sleeved pink top but the recent snow called for extra layers so out came the patterned leggings and the bright pink jumper and the extra two pairs of socks.

I’m absolutely positive if I was ever to become a famous writer this would pop up in a worst dressed column so just in case dreams really do come true… here it is my fashion NO!

And staying true to Joy’s blog below is a description of said items of clothing….

sorry if I have offended your eyes or fashion sense but remeber this
